I hand built Batik Boot Vase – Creme with a rolled slab of clay. I created the textural design from an Indonesian batik block stamp. It’s fun to manipulate the stamp in many directions to produce a pleasing and coherent pattern.
After I bisque-fired the piece, I rubbed red iron oxide into the entire surface. The glaze liner is a simple cream rust.
Fired the second time at 2200 degrees, rendering the piece water tight.
Batik Boot Vase – Creme is the kind of vase that can fit anywhere in home or office. And it will set off any color palette of flowers, bright strong colors or softer pastel. White would make a striking contrast as well. So useful.
Stands about 13″ high and is about 3.5″ in diameter.
