Description

I made Black Bear Pair of soup bowls on the potter’s wheel using an iron bearing stoneware clay. And I pulled each handle directly from the body of each cup, adding a small bead of clay as a thumb stop or rest.

After the bowls are thrown and leather hard, I trim each one and pull the handles.  When the bowls are completely dry, I bisque fire them.  Bisque firing turns the clay to a ceramic that is porous.  Next each bowl is dry footed with wax in preparation for glaze.  So this combination that I am calling “Black Bear” consists of four glazes:  Black Satin, Red Gold, Copper Green, and Cream.  I’ve been using the black satin and red gold together on some wine cups.  And I’ve also been using the red gold and green on the tops of pots, with a red iron oxide wash on the bottom (see JT wine cups).  It’s a natural progression I suppose to want to put the three together and I’m glad I did.  The bowls are lined in cream.

The black satin is so smooth in appearance and to the touch.  Wow.  Stunning, IMHO.

Use Black Bear Pair soup bowls to serve french onion soup, stew, chili, hot chocolate, or coffee.  Food or beverage, you decide.  Use one or two for dips or chips or other snacks.

The set makes a great wedding gift, house warming gift, holiday gift, anytime gift.

Each bowl is 5″ diameter x 2.5″ high.  16 oz capacity. Dishwasher and microwave safe.

Sold in pairs.
