Description
I made Blue Rain Round Mug on the potter’s wheel from an iron-bearing stoneware clay, with a full round form and flat bottom. The clay is a toasty tan color when fired to its maturity. I pulled the handle directly from the body of the mug and added a thumb rest for extra comfort. The handle is comfortable – not too thin not too thick.
Blue Rain Round Mug helps keeps your favorite beverage hot or cold. Liquid flows smoothly from the inside curve to your mouth.
I call this glaze application “Blue Rain”. Starting with a purple matte glaze that I make, I dipped the mugs about halfway on the exterior of the mug. Next I dipped the same mug from the top in a floating blue glaze that I make, overlapping the purple. Once the glaze has dried, I dip the top into a red gold and also daub the red gold here and there on the surface.
The result is a streaking gold over blue, or rain, with blooms in various places. Each surface is slightly different.
All my stoneware is fired twice, once to what is called bisque (biscuit) and then a second glaze kiln to 2200 degrees F.
Makes a great housewarming, birthday, holiday, or “thank you” gift.
A rounded u-shape delivers your favorite beverage smoothly across the rim and helps to hold your beverage hot or cold for longer.
All of my mugs are microwave and dishwasher safe.
