Description

I made Blue Rain Vase on the potter’s wheel from an iron bearingstoneware clay.  It has a full round form that tapers at the neck and then flares at the rim.  And a slight taper to a flat bottom.

“Blue Rain” is what I call the sheeting of colors produced by this glaze combination.  I start with a floating blue glaze up top, say the upper 1/3 of the pot.  Next I dip the bottom in purple matte glaze, leaving a blank band around the circumference of the pot.  Once the glaze has dried, I dip again into a red gold glaze, from the top to just beyond the blank ring. I also daub some of the red gold with a round paint brush here and there over the body of the pot.  Stand back and wait for the magic!

Blue Rain Vase will add interest and grace to any home decor. Fill with your favorite flowers.  Simply drop a fistful of your favorite flowers in and let the neck gather the arrangement naturally.  Or create a more complex arrangement.  Display without flowers too.  Makes a great wedding, anniversary, house warming, or anytime gift!

Fired to 2200 degrees F.  Yes, it is water tight. Holds flowers quite well.  Sits flat and is stable.
