Description

I made Blue Rain Wine Cups on the potter’s wheel using a tan stoneware clay.  They are deliciously shaped to fit in the hand with impressions or dimples in either side of the cup for a comfy, firm grasp.

After each cup is trimmed and dry, they go through the first firing, called bisque.  ‘Blue Rain’ is the name I have given the glaze combo.  It’s similar to the “Purple Rain” glaze combo.  First line the cup with a floating blue glaze I make.  Next, I dip the exterior of the cup in a purple matte glaze that I make, but only about 3/4 of the way up.  Then I dip the upper 1/4 of the cup in the floating blue glaze that I make.  Once this glaze has dried, I dip half of the top half in red gold.  For the final touch, I daub red gold in “blooms” over the surface for added interest.

The melding of the glazes creates a sheeting, or rain, effect.  Each pair is matching in height and style.  Each cup also is unique.

Fill with holiday cheer!  Mulled wine, cider, egg nog, or cocoa anyone? Great for serving wine on any occasion.  I use cups like these for coffee with no problem.  Heating in the microwave is safe, simply allow the cup to cool before handling.

Blue Rain Wine Cups are sold as a pair.  Gift to couples, partners, roomies, sisters, bros, or singles (because you always need a second cup for company).

They make a great gift for wedding, holidays, housewarming, birthday, or just to say “thank you”.

Approximately 4″ high.  Holds 12 oz per cup.
