Description
I made Desert Hwy Tray from slab-rolled stoneware clay. I drape the rolled clay over a mold, shaping it over the form and then cutting away the excess clay. The form is dried slowly to avoid warping and has a flat bottom.
Desert Hwy is the glaze technique I am using here. Beginning with a dip into the purple matte glaze I make; and then a dip on the opposite side in the floating blue glaze I also make. Then a swath of red gold right down the middle, like a highway. Some daubing here and there with a sash brush lends the appearance of clouds. Somehow Neil Young’s “Unknown Legend” comes to mind.
Desert Hwy Tray will hold two finger bowls; or, a pair of salt and pepper shakers. Use it to serve small servings of appetizers, like sushi or nuts or olives or relish. Combine with a couple of finger bowls as a dipping set. Display on a shelf or sideboard when it’s not in service. Dishwasher, oven, and microwave safe.
9″Long x 4″ Wide. Makes a great gift for birthday, holiday, house warming, and any occasion. Give the gift of handmade pottery and jump start a collections; or, start building your collection!
