I made Iris Barrel Mug on the potter’s wheel using stoneware clay. I pulled the handle directly from the pot and then added a thumb rest for comfort. Iris Barrel Mug has a flat bottom and stands about 5″ High and holds at least 12 ounces.
I dipped the mug in a cream rust glaze which I make and then overlapped some areas with a matte purple glaze (which I also make) by dipping and pouring. The overlapping of the two glazes produces an interesting lace effect.
Stoneware pottery helps to keep your coffee or tea hot longer than those cheap imported slip-poured mugs. Be a snob! Use only handcrafted pottery!
