I made Iris Creamer on the potter’s wheel from stoneware clay. It has a rounded shape with a flat bottom and a handle pulled directly from the body of the pot. I think this gives the handle a more natural look and feel, as if the handle grew from the pot. And then I add a little thumb stop for comfort and interest. Light weight and balanced.
Decorated in what I call “Iris” glaze, I overlap purple matte and cream rust glazes and then punctuate the cream surface with a few drops or splashes of purple to tie it all together. The result of this combination is unique and playful but not overly stated. It sings!
Accent your existing tea or coffee service with a pop of purple, or start a whole new line in your pottery repertoire.
Iris Creamer makes a great gift for birthday. Or a stocking stuffer for the holidays. A delightful housewarming gift. Or a little something to say “thank you!” or “get well soon!”
