I made Iris Small Serving Bowl on the potter’s wheel from stoneware clay and trimmed a foot. “Iris” is the name I gave the overlapping purple and cream glazes, even though the color purple I use is more of a plum color.
After the bowl was bisque-fired, I dipped the outside in a matte plum purple that I make. I poured a cream glaze I make on the inside of the bowl. Using my fingers to scoop up purple glaze and quickly “draw” or “drizzle” over the cream creates a spontaneous and exciting design. And the overall shape and feel of Iris Small Serving Bowl is pleasing to the touch, well-balanced in the hand, and smooth to the touch.
Use the bowl for individual cereal, soup, salad, or stir fry or serve chips to a small group. Fill with mashed potatoes, stuffing, peas, or some other favorite side to pass around the dinner table.
