Description
Midnight Bloom Femme Fatale Mug has a slightly-tapered waistline. I took inspiration from the way my father held his coffee cup, around the middle, instead of using the handle. Wrap your fingers around this beauty and savor your favorite beverage, hot or cold.
I made Midnight Bloom Femme Fatale Mug on the potter’s wheel using an iron bearing stoneware clay, which fires out tan. A pulled handle has plenty of room for most hand sizes and added a thumb stop for extra comfort. The bottom is flat.
A pared down glaze departure from the “Taos” 4-part overlapping blue, green, cream, & gold glaze. Here I use a single application of the floating blue glaze that I make. When this glaze is applied in a single application, the color fires to a dark blue. Thus, midnight. Then I use the gold glaze but I dip only the rim and then daub the surface using a sash brush. Lastly, I quickly trail some of the gold glaze in diagonal lines to tie the elements together. The gold glaze emerges as a bright blue with golden edges, like “blooms”.
