Description

I made Large Floating Blue Bowl on the potter’s wheel from stoneware clay, which is a tan-to-light brown color.
A trimmed foot lifts the bowl and adds elegance to its line.  After the bowls has dried, I fire it in my electric kiln.  This is called the bisque fire and it makes the pottery permanently hardened but still porous enough to take on glaze.  To read more about firing pottery click here.

Large Floating Blue Bowl gets its surface beauty from a combination of techniques using 2 glazes, 1 of which I make myself.  First I dip the bowl in a floating blue glaze, 1/2 of the bowl and then the other 1/2.  This creates a slight overlap.  A single application of the floating blue results in a dark, navy blue color.  Where the glaze overlaps itself, the blue becomes brighter.  Next I use a sash brush to daub a thick gold glaze here and there across the inside and the outside of the bowl.  For the final accent, I quickly trail thin lines in diagonals over the surface of the bowl.  The interior of the bowl is a lighter blue, closer to a true floating blue and the backside is darker, navy.

Use for serving large salads or pastas.  Use it for fruit or as a center piece for a table or sideboard. Makes a great gift for wedding, housewarming, or any occasion.  Well-balanced.

Dishwasher, microwave and oven safe. 12.25” diameter x 4” high
