Description

I made Midnight Bloom Small Serving Bowl on the potter’s wheel from stoneware clay.  The clay is a tan to light brown color.
I trimmed a slight foot and after the bowl was dry and fired it in my electric kiln.  This is called the bisque fire and it makes the pottery permanently hardened but still porous enough to take on glaze.  To read more about firing pottery click here.

Midnight Bloom Small Serving Bowl gets its surface beauty from a combination of 2 glazes, 1 of which I make myself.  First I dip half the piece in the floating blue glaze.  Then the same for the other half, with some rolling around so the glaze settles thicker in some places.  This will produce lighter or brighter areas over the darker areas where the glaze is thinner.  I use a red gold glaze on the rim.  It’s a runny glaze so it flows into the blue.  I also trail and daub the red gold with a round brush,  resulting in “vines” and “blooms”.

Use for cereal, soup, salad, or serving.  Compliments any dinnerware set or table.  The beaded rim protects from chipping when washing in the sink and general daily use.

Dishwasher, microwave and oven safe.

Two bowls at 9”Diameter x 3”H.
