Description
I made Purple Rain Barrel Mug on the potter’s wheel from an iron-bearing stoneware clay. The clay is a toasty tan color when fired to its maturity. I pulled the handle directly from the body of the mug and added a thumb rest for extra comfort. The handle is comfortable – not too thin not too thick. Flat bottom.
Purple Rain Barrel Mug helps keeps your favorite beverage hot or cold. Liquid flows smoothly from the inside curve to your mouth.
I call this glaze application “Purple Rain”. Starting with a purple matte glaze that I make, I dip the entire exterior of the mug. Next I dip the mug from the top in a red gold glaze. Once the glaze has dried, I dip over the red gold about halfway with a copper green glaze that I make.. The use of these three glazes is still evolving for me. On a vertical surface, the result of the 3-glaze combo is a fusion, like “rain”!
All my stoneware is fired twice, once to what is called bisque (biscuit) and then a second glaze kiln to 2200 degrees F.
Makes a great housewarming, birthday, holiday, or “thank you” gift.
The shape delivers your favorite beverage smoothly across the rim and the tapered rim closes the form slightly, helping to hold the heat or the cold longer.
All of my mugs are microwave and dishwasher safe.
4”H. 14 oz capacity
