Description
I made Purple Rain Creamer on the potter’s wheel from stoneware clay. It has a gracefully elongated shape with a trimmed foot and a handle pulled directly from the body of the pot. I think this gives the handle a more natural look and feel, as if the handle grew from the pot. And then I add a little thumb stop for comfort and interest. Light weight, balanced, sturdy.
Decorated in what I call “Purple Rain” glaze, I start by dipping the piece in a purple matte that I make. Next I dip the piece about 3/4 of the way down in a commercially-made red gold. And finally I dip just the top bit of the pot in a green that I make. The green melds with the red gold and showers the purple, like rain. It sings!
Accent your existing tea or coffee service with a pop of purple, or start a whole new line in your pottery repertoire.
