I made Purple Sunset Medium Bowl on the potter’s wheel from a mid range stoneware clay. Trimmed foot elevates the bowl slightly from the surface. Medium weight with an open body and shapely profile.
Once the bowl is completely dry, I fire it to bisque (biscuit), which converts the clay to a ceramic but leaves it porous enough to accept the glaze. I dipped the outer side of the bowl in a purple matte glaze which I make. The interior is lined with a red gold. For the final touch, I “trail” and daub some of the red gold glaze at angles over the surface of the exterior, giving the purple added interest. Sometimes the red gold pushes to orange and sometimes it actually pops blue. Did I mention the slight piping of copper green on the rim? This bowl is cool on the outside and that last bit of solar brightness on the inside! Thus the name “Purple Sunset”.
Fired a second time, the glaze kiln, to 2200 degrees, the finished piece is strong and durable. It’s also Oven safe. And of course, completely food safe.
Use for serving or mixing. Makes a great wedding, housewarming, holiday, anytime gift.
Purple Sunset Medium Bowl is 10.75″ Diameter x 3.75″ High
