Description

I made Large Floating Blue Bowl on the potter’s wheel from stoneware clay, which is a tan-to-light brown color. With a full form, flat bottom, and sturdy rim.
After the bowl is bone dry, I fire it in my electric kiln.  This is called the bisque fire and it makes the pottery permanently hardened but still porous enough to take on glaze.  To read more about firing pottery click here.

Large Floating Blue Bowl gets its surface beauty from a combination of techniques using 2 glazes, 1 of which I make myself.  First I dip the bowl in a floating blue glaze, 1/2 of the bowl and then the other 1/2.  This creates a slight overlap.  A single application of the floating blue results in a dark, navy blue color.  Where the glaze overlaps itself, the blue becomes brighter.  Next I use a special brush to trail and daub red gold glaze here and there across the inside and the outside of the bowl.  For the final accent, I paint the rim with the same red gold glaze.  This bowl is ablaze with bright blue and even some pinks. The red gold highlights sparkle with bursts of magic.

Use for serving large salads or pastas.  Maybe use it for fruit or as a center piece on a table or sideboard. Or use for a bread bowl or mixing bowl.  Makes a great gift for wedding, housewarming, or any occasion.  Well-balanced.

Dishwasher, microwave and oven safe. 11.5” diameter x 4.75” high
