I made Taos Creamer on the potter’s wheel from stoneware clay. It has a flat bottom and a handle pulled directly from the body of the pot. I think this gives the handle a more natural look and feel, as if the handle grew from the pot. And then I add a little thumb stop for comfort and interest.
Decorated in the “Taos” glaze I have developed, 4 different glazes represent the strong characteristics of Northern New Mexico: Blue for the wide open southwestern skies. Green for the sage, the pinon forests, the pastures. Cream for the puff parade and streaks of clouds. And gold for the intense sunshine! The combination forms a dynamic surface which is consistent yet not too matchy-matchy. Each piece as subtle differences.
Start your collection of tableware and accessories in the Taos tradition. Taos Creamer makes a great gift for birthday. Or a stocking stuffer for the holidays. A delightful housewarming gift. Or a little something to say “thank you!” or “get well soon!”
