Description

I made Midnight Blue Salad Bowl Set on the potter’s wheel from stoneware clay.  The clay is a tan to light brown color.
I trimmed a slight foot and after the bowl was dry I fired it in my electric kiln.  This is called the bisque fire and it makes the clay a ceramic that is porous and ready for glaze.  To read more about firing pottery click here.

Midnight Blue Salad Bowl Set gets its surface beauty from a combination of 2 glazes, 1 of which I make myself.  First I dip half the piece in the floating blue glaze.  Then the same for the other half, with some rolling around so the glaze settles thicker in some places.  This will produce lighter or brighter areas over the darker areas where the glaze is thinner.  I use a red gold glaze on the rim.  It’s a runny glaze so it flows into the blue.  I also trail and daub the red gold with a round brush,  resulting in “vines” and “blooms”.

Use for salads, soups, sides, or snacks.  Compliments any dinnerware set or table.  The slightly beaded rim protects from chipping when washing in the sink and general daily use.

Makes a great wedding, holiday, housewarming, any time gift.  Compliments any collection.

Dishwasher, microwave and oven safe.

Set of 4 bowls at 6.75″ Diameter x 3”H.  Large matching serving bowl available as well.
