I made Verde Medium Serving Bowl on the potter’s wheel from stoneware clay. The clay is a tan to light brown color.
I trimmed a tall foot and after the bowl was dry and fired it in my electric kiln. This is called the bisque fire and it makes the pottery permanently hardened but still porous enough to take on glaze. To read more about firing pottery click here.
Verde Medium Serving Bowl gets its surface beauty from a combination of 2 glazes, which I make myself. First I dip the piece in green on two sides. When the glaze has dried, I turn the piece and overlap with a cream rust. The areas where the two glazes overlap, form a fascinating third element that you just have to see. I see it as “billowy”, like silken fabric. I can’t quite put my finger on it.
Use for fruits, salad, or serving. Build your dinnerware set around it or use it as a unique accent piece. The beaded rim protects from chipping when washing in the sink and general daily use. It’s a sturdy bowl of medium weight.
