I made Verde Side Kicks on the potter’s wheel from stoneware clay. Each bowl has a flat bottom. The threesome stack for convenient storage.
The clean and tailored surface is created by combining two glazes: copper green and cream rust. First, I fire the 3 Verde Side Kicks to bisque and then I glaze each bowl by dipping roughly half of each bowl in the green. Next I dip the other half of each bowl in the cream rust, being sure to create an overlap. And the result is a clean, tailored surface. The overlap of the two glazes creates an effect that somehow makes me think of cactus. I make both glazes and they food, dishwasher, and oven safe. Firing a second time (the glaze kiln) to 2200 degrees F, these stoneware beauties are strong and durable.
Use individually or as a threesome: guacamole, salsa, and sour cream perhaps. These handy dandy bowls are great for serving nuts, pretzels, olives, or dips. Use to serve condiments or to hold sweeteners. You can even use them as tea bowls. Comfortable and balanced in the hand. They sit stable on their flat bottoms. Use to store your jewelry, cotton balls, or other cosmetic accessories.
The set makes a great thank you, housewarming, holiday, anytime gift!
