Description
I made Verde Pair soup bowls on the potter’s wheel using an iron bearing stoneware clay. And I pulled each handle directly from the body of each cup, adding a small bead of clay as a thumb stop or rest.
After the bowls are thrown and leather hard, I trim each one and pull the handles. And when the bowls are completely dry, I bisque fire them. Bisque firing turns the clay to a ceramic that is porous. Next I prepare the bowls for glazing by dry footing each bowl with wax resist. “Verde” is a combination of two glazes that I make. First I dip each bowl into a bucket of the copper green. I like to go on an angle on either side. Next I dip each bowl into a bucket of cream rust, creating an overlap. The result is a clean, maybe tailored, look; and a bit calmer on the eye than some of my other combinations.
Use Verde Pair soup bowls to serve soup, stew, chili, hot chocolate, or coffee. Food or beverage, you decide. Use one or two for dips or chips or other snacks.
The pair makes a great wedding gift, house warming gift, holiday gift, anytime gift.
