I made Verde U Mug on the potter’s wheel from an iron-bearing stoneware clay. The clay is a toasty tan color when fired to its maturity. I pulled the handle directly from the body of the mug and added a thumb rest for extra comfort. The handle is comfortable, sturdy, and roomy. The mug has a trimmed bottom that sits flat and is stable. And it’s well balanced and light weight.
To create the “Verde” surface, I start by dipping the cup in petal sections in a copper green glaze that I make. Then I dip the bare portions in a cream rust glaze that I make. The areas of overlap create a third element on the surface and reminds me of cactus.

Serve your favorite hot tea or coffee or hot chocolate. Serve cold beverages as well. Once you drink from a handmade pottery mug you won’t want to go back to those slip cast, easily chipped, manufactured mugs.
