I made Cocoa Mocha Mug on the potter’s wheel using a tan stoneware clay. Here’s a barrel shape with beaded rim and flat bottom. I pull a generous and comfy handle directly from the body of the mug. And add a thumb stop for comfort!
After the mug is made and dried, I fire it to bisque and then apply the glaze. And then it’s playtime!
First, I dip the mug about 3/4 from the bottom in a textured amber glaze. It’s a semi-matte glaze. Next, I dip the upper 1/4 of the mug in a satin matte. Yummy. And then a cream for the glaze liner.
Now the mug is ready for a second firing, this time to 2200 degrees! The higher the firing the stronger the ceramic.
Serve your favorite beverage, hot or cold. Maybe coffee maybe tea, or cocoa, or something else. Enjoy the warm and subtle rich glaze combo and textures as you enjoy your morning Joe or afternoon tea. And you can sip with confidence because I formed a smooth rim that rolls from inside to out. Stoneware pottery helps hold the temperature, hot or cold.
