Description
I made Floating Bloom 2 Quart Baker on the potter’s wheel from stoneware clay. First I throw the bowl of the casserole and create a galley where the lid will seat. Then I throw the lid on the wheel to fit the diameter of the bowl. This is a somewhat low, open profile.
When the two pieces are not quite leather hard, I trim them both and then make the handle for the lid from twisted clay.
Next I bisque fire Floating Bloom 2 Quart Baker and then I glaze each piece in a floating blue glaze that I make. Then I “bloom” the surface by trailing red gold glaze and daubing hither and thither, to create blossoms of brightness.
Blue jean blue with blazing blooms floating across the surface. Just lovely.
Yes, you can bake in it! I fire to 2200 degrees. Use it for tortillas, main dish, or to serve favorite sides. Stoneware helps keep food warm longer. And you’ll dazzle your dinner guests! Light weight, well-balanced. And the lid fits snugly from all directions!
Makes a unique and beautiful wedding, anniversary, housewarming, or anytime gift!
Slight trimmed foot. Bowl is 11″diameter x 2.75″ High. 2-quart capacity.
(Note: When reheating leftovers from the fridge, allow the casserole to come to room temperature before placing in a pre-heated oven. Or, place the cold casserole in a cold oven and warm the two up together.
