I made Floating Bloom Mug on the potter’s wheel with stoneware clay. The bottom is flat and the handle roomy enough for bigger hands! I pull the handle directly from the mug giving it a natural look and feel. A thumb stop is added for additional comfort.
The “Floating Bloom” glaze is a 2-part application. First, I dip each half of the mug in floating blue glaze that I make. And then I daub and trail a red gold glaze over the surface to create blooms and “star fire”. The result is a modulated surface with pops of brightness and even some pinks in there! Believe it or not, this is the same blue glaze I use that produces a navy blue effect. The difference is in the thickness of the glaze application. Some love the dark blue and some the bright blue. Collect some of both. Variety is the spice of life!
