Description
I made Matte Black Vase on the potter’s wheel from stoneware clay as part of a series of bowl vases. A special request made from a man who had purchased a bowl vase from me a few years back wanted his son to have something similar. The pot’s fullness and the matte glaze were the main points of interest for father and son. And so I set about making several pots in the same vein, as I usually do for commissions.
Matte Black Vase has a classic full shape that comes together in a flat rim at the top. The rim and the flat bottom are stained with red iron oxide before firing, which adds a richness to the pot’s desgin.
Light weight and well-balanced. Water tight. Enjoy with your favorite flowers. A mixed bouquet of color perhaps. Or a shock of yellow, or purple, or red, against the matte black. Wow. Display on a bookshelf or side table. It’s subtle and handsome and has an intriguing surface texture.
Makes a great wedding, anniversary, house warming, or anytime gift!
Fired to 2200 degrees F. Yes, it is water tight. Holds flowers quite well. Sits flat and is stable.
