Description
I made Purple Bowl Plate on the potter’s wheel from an iron bearing stoneware clay. It has a flat bottom and a sturdy beaded rim. The sides curve up like a bowl but the form is flat enough to be a plate.
I am using three glazes. First I dip 1/3 and then the opposite 1/3 of the plate in a purple matte glaze that I make. Next I pour a red glaze in the space between the two purple areas, overlapping some. Then I pour a copper green glaze over the gold. Each plate will have a slightly unique melding of the 3 glazes; but the overall effect is pretty interesting.
I fire all my dinnerware to at least 2200 degrees F so it’s durable, strong, and safe for dishwasher, microwave and oven.
