Description
I made Taos Barrel mug on the potter’s wheel from an iron-bearing stoneware clay. The clay is a toasty tan color when fired to its maturity. I pulled the handle directly from the body of the mug and added a thumb rest for extra comfort. The handle is comfortable, sturdy, and roomy. The mug has a small foot that sits flat and is stable.
To create the “Taos” surface, I start by dipping the cup in a floating blue glaze that I make. Then I dip the bottom portion in a copper green that I make. Next I trail cream glaze across the intersection of blue and green. Lastly, I dip the rim in a red gold which will sheet somewhat when it melds. All the elements of the Northern New Mexico colors come into play here, giving the surface the feeling of a landscape.
Taos Barrel Mug is a round form that tapers and then flares ever so slightly at the rim. And it helps keep your favorite beverage hot or cold. Liquid flows smoothly from the inside curve to your mouth. Durable, smooth to touch.
Makes a great gift for all occasions: Housewarming, birthday, holiday, “thank you”.
All of my mugs are microwave and dishwasher safe.
