Description

I made Taos Egg on the potter’s wheel from stoneware clay with a full round form that tapers at both ends. Clean and simple lines.

And I call the glaze for this pot,”Taos”, a technique I developed over many applications of combining four glazes:  Floating blue, copper green, cream rust, and red gold.  First floating blue, usually on the upper “slightly more than half” of a vertical pot like this one.  Next, copper green goes on the bottom portion.  Then, cream carefully poured from the green upward, crossing into the blue.  Woo hoo!  Now we’re having fun!  I dip just 1/4 of the top of the in the red gold because it doesn’t take much to get this glaze running.  Also, I trail the glaze across the body and daub the red gold here and there, which will fire out like “blooms”.

There you have it!  The kiln will magically meld them all together with a consistent look but with variations.  Lately, the tips of the red gold trails have been firing out in tips of golden light.

Taos Egg adds interest and grace to any home decor. And it’s a pot you can ponder and enjoy with or without flowers.  Simply drop a fistful of your favorite flowers in and let the opening gather them naturally.  Or create a more complex arrangement.  Display without flowers too.  Makes a great wedding, anniversary, house warming, or anytime gift!

Okay, it’s not really an egg shape, but this pot is a “good egg”.

Fired to 2200 degrees F.  Yes, it is water tight. Sits flat and is stable

7.5″High.
