Description
Taos Femme Fatale Mug has a slightly-tapered waistline. I took inspiration from the way my father held his coffee cup, around the middle, instead of using the handle. Wrap your fingers around this beauty and savor your favorite beverage, hot or cold. And the mug has a bit of a waistline, which is what made me think of the title.
I made Taos Femme Fatale Mug on the potter’s wheel using an iron bearing stoneware clay, which fires out tan. A pulled handle has plenty of room for most hand sizes and added a thumb stop for extra comfort. The bottom is flat.
My classic “Taos” glaze here. I start with a dunk in the floating blue bucket about 3/4 of the way from the top down. Next, I dip the bottom 1/4 in the copper green. Splash, trail, small pours of cream across the mid section and then red gold daubs and trails. The firing melds these 4 glazes into landscape, reminiscent of Norther New Mexico; thus, “Taos”. The most recent addition of daubing creates “blooms” or clouds if you like, adding another feature to the surface.
Makes a great thank you gift, birthday gift, holiday gift, or welcome gift.
