Description

I made Taos Round Mug on the potter’s wheel from an iron-bearing stoneware clay, with a full round form and flat bottom.  The clay is a toasty tan color when fired to its maturity.  I pulled the handle directly from the body of the mug and added a thumb rest for extra comfort.  The handle is comfortable – not too thin not too thick.

I call this glaze application “Taos”.  Starting with a floating blue glaze that I make, I dipped the mugs head first about halfway down the mug.  Next I dipped the same mug from the bottom in a copper green glaze that I make.  Once the glaze has dried, I pour or trail cream rust glaze across the seam of the blue and green.  And for the final touch, I dip the rim of the cup in red gold and also trail and daub the red gold here and there over the surface.

The result is a melding of all the colors that are so Northern New Mexico.  Each cup is slightly different reflection.

All my stoneware is fired twice, once to what is called bisque (biscuit) and then a second glaze kiln to 2200 degrees F.

Makes a great housewarming, birthday, holiday, or “thank you” gift.

A rounded shape delivers your favorite beverage smoothly across the rim and helps to hold your beverage hot or cold for longer.

All of my mugs are microwave and dishwasher safe.
