Description

I made Taos Valley on the potter’s wheel with stoneware clay and then trimmed a pedestal foot.  A low, open bowl form to the fullest.  Stoneware clay is a strong and durable clay body that is ideal for table ware.

I call this glaze technique ‘Taos” because the overall effect reminds me of the natural environment in Northern New Mexico.  I start by dipping half the bowl in a floating blue glaze that I make.  Next I dip the remaining half in a copper glaze I make.  Now the fun begins and I start to feel like a painter flinging, pouring, and trailing cream glaze and then red gold over the top.  Lately, I have started to daub a bit of the red gold glaze as well to add a punch, a suggestion of something floral or cloud like.  Blue, green, and cream glazes I make myself; and I purchase the red gold glaze.

The melding of the glazes is somewhat unique each time, making groupings of, or an entire place setting, dinnerware in the Taos glaze interesting. Here we find ourselves in a breathtaking mountain valley!  The hills are alive…

Use Taos Valley for serving an array of appetizers, main meat dishes, or large sides, pasta, or salad. Or use Taos Valley as an accent piece, fruit bowl, or possibly even as an ikebana flower arrangement.  And it’s light weight, balanced, and durable.

Makes a stunning wedding gift, anniversary gift, house warming gift, and will compliment any dining or serving table and home decor.
