Description
Verde Femme Fatale Mug tapers from bottom to a waistline and then out to the rim. It has a stable flat bottom and a beaded rim.
I made Verde Femme Fatale Mug on the potter’s wheel using an iron bearing stoneware clay, which fires out tan. A pulled handle has plenty of room for most hand sizes and added a thumb stop for extra comfort.
I call this glaze combination “Verde” for the copper green glaze I make. After the cups are bisqued and bottoms waxed to resist glaze, I dip opposite sides of the cup in a copper green glaze that I make. I usually do this on a diagonal and then dip the across the bare areas in a cream rust glaze I also make. The result is clean and contemporary. Sometimes the rust will break over the rim or emerge in areas where the glaze is a little thinner. And the areas where the two glazes overlap creates a third element, adding interest to the surface.
Makes a great thank you, housewarming, birthday, holiday, job appreciation, anytime gift!
I fired these cups to 2200 degrees F, which makes them a strong stoneware ceramic. The handle won’t get hot in the microwave like those cheap, mass produced, slip cast cups! Stoneware heats evenly and help hold the heat longer. Once you’ve enjoyed a handmade stoneware mug you’ll never go back to commercially made mugs!
5.5”H. 11 oz capacity. Microwave and dishwasher safe.
