I threw the walls of Verde Short Pan on the potter’s wheel as a bottomless ring. Then I shape it into a square, roughly, and add a slab rolled floor. The bottom is flat. The walls on slightly concave ever so slightly and I have added knotted handles which makes it easy to pull from a hot oven. And the spoon or spatula will roll along the curve of the wall!
Verde glaze consists of layering copper green and cream rust glazes, both of which I make. First, I dip the piece in the copper green glaze. The glaze will usually flow in a kind of a ‘U’ shape inside the dish. Then I dip the opposite half with the cream rust glaze I make. This technique produces a piece that has areas which are strictly green and areas that are strictly cream. And areas where the two create an interesting go between. The result is clean, tailored, and more subtle than some of my glaze combos!
And yes, you can bake in it! Bake enchiladas, lasagna, egg plant Parmesan, or your holiday stuffing. Use as a serving tray.
When baking at room temperature, the dish is safe to go into a preheated oven; however, when reheating refrigerated left-overs, do not preheat the oven. Put the cold dish into the cold oven and heat them up together. If you are juggling oven time and the oven is already hot, allow the refrigerated dish to come to room temperature first.
