Description
I made JT Pitcher on the potter’s wheel from stoneware clay. I pulled the handle directly from the pot and added a thumb stop for comfort and leverage. It has a flat bottom.
The JT or “Joshua Tree” glaze starts with a red iron oxide rubbed into the clay. This is a permanent treatment. Next I dip the upper portion of the piece in a red gold matte glaze. Lastly, I did about half of the red gold area in a copper green glaze that I make. The melding of the elements is natural, rich, and pleasing. An homage to the Joshua Tree.
I pull the spout from the neck just after throwing the piece and then continue to shape the spout so it pours smoothly and without dripping.
JT Pitcher was fired to 2200 degrees F serve up hot as well as cold beverages. Stoneware pottery holds the temperature of its contents better than poured commercial slip ware.
Serve up iced tea, iced coffee, lemonade, or sangria! Use the pitcher for a flower vase. Beautiful to display when not in service. Makes a great wedding, anniversary, housewarming, anytime gift.
