Description
I made Purple Sunset Wine Cups on the potter’s wheel using a tan stoneware clay. Deliciously shaped to fit in the hand with impressions or dimples in either side of the cup for a comfy, firm grasp.
After trimming an drying, the cups go through the first firing, called bisque. Now it’s time for glazing. First, I dip about 3/4 of the cup in a purple mat glaze that I make. Next, I dip the upper 1/3 of the cup in a red gold glaze. Once this glaze has dried, I dip half of the top 1/3 in a copper green glaze I make. Each cup is lined with blue.
And into the kiln they go! Fired to 2200 degrees. During the firing, the glazes meld and the result is a dazzling effect that reminds me of a southwestern sunset. Each pair is closely matched in height and style. And, each cup also is unique.
Ready to fill with holiday cheer! Mulled wine, cider, egg nog, or cocoa anyone? Great for serving wine on any occasion. Use for juices. Hot tea or coffee should be allowed to cool before handling!
Gift to couples, partners, roomies, sisters, bros, or singles (because you always need a second cup for company).
They make a great gift for wedding, holidays, housewarming, birthday, or just to say “thank you”.
Sold as a pair. 10 oz capacity per cup.
