Description
I made Taos Blue Baker on the potter’s wheel from stoneware clay. First I throw the bowl of the casserole and create a galley where the lid will seat. Then I throw the lid on the wheel to fit the diameter of the bowl.
When the two pieces are not quite leather hard, I trim them both and then make the handle for the lid from twisted clay. After I bisque fire Taos Blue Baker, I glaze each piece in a floating blue glaze that I make. I overlap the blue with red gold on the lid. And trail and daub the red gold along the sides of the bowl, to create blooms of brightness. Then I fire to 2200 degrees.
Wow! The blue is blazing and the gold accents amazing.
Yes, you can bake in it! Use it to serve favorite side dishes as well. It will help keep them warm longer and dazzle your dinner guests! Light weight, well-balanced. And the lid fits snugly from all directions!
