Description
I made Verde Oval using a slab roller and a drape mold. First, I roll out the clay to about 1/4″ thickness. I use a stoneware clay with some iron which fires to toasty brown. Next I drape the slab of clay over a mold, shaping it over the form and then cutting away the excess clay. And I leave an extra 1/2-1 inch margin beyond the form. This gives me some wriggle room when I’m cleaning up edges. The form is dried slowly to avoid warping and has a flat bottom.
Verde is the glaze combination I am using here. First I dip maybe half of the tray in the copper green that I make, rolling the glaze up on either end. And then dipping in the cream rust I make, ensuring there is an overlap of the two glazes. Where the two meet creates an interesting textural component. This combination results in a clean and soothing surface.
